Budge Drive falls apart.

Budge Drive falls apart.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming – At 3:30 p.m. I got a phone call from my Web guy, Mike Hardaker, saying that he saw a bunch of people gathering on Broadway, across the street from the now famous, or infamous rather, Budge Drive slide. Something must be up, we thought.

I sat with my camera for HOURS (from 3:45 – 8 p.m.) and caught a little of the slide on tape. But armed only with my iPhone, Chuck Taylor’s and no socks, I succumbed to the cold and my phone went dead.

Between 4 – 8 p.m. there was significant movement in the hillside. Cracks became huge gaps, that trampoline at the top of the hill began to sink into the hillside, the pump house slide further into the Walgreens sign and huge fractures emerged from nowhere. Nary a Town official in sight (except for Town public information officer Charlotte Reynolds, who made a guest appearance amid the Hillbillies checking out the slide) us gapers had a great shot at slide.

Though darkness has fallen along with the gravel, the Town of Jackson is streaming the slide live HERE. Check it out, it’s pretty cool.

If the hillside continues to progress as it did this afternoon, it should be in Walgreens parking lot by morning. Sidewinders was supposed to reopen on Friday but due to today’s movement, they will remain closed. But when they do open, we hear they’re serving up cheap draft beer and … sliders, of course.
