TONIGHT: SHREDx rips The Rose

By on February 24, 2015

Jackson Hole, Wyoming – The spirit of snowboarding is difficult to define. But it manifests when you get passionate people talking about it.

Pro-rider and shred ambassador Rob Kingwill hosts an evening exploring snowboarding’s sacredness tonight during a SHREDx talk as part of the Jackson Hole PowWow, a week of snowboard demos and events that Kingwill spearheaded three years ago.

Inspired by TEDx talks, which introduce audiences to novel ideas and enlightened perspectives, SHREDx (snowboarding, history, aRt, entertainment and design) spotlights fascinating folks immersed in snowboarding and armed with tales that will resonate with riders.

“Snowboarding is really a young sport, and many of the inventors and innovators are still alive and kicking,” Kingwill said. “I think it is important to share where the sport came from and build a strong community spirit so we can continue to innovate and keep people stoked on riding.”

Arguably the first snowboarder in Jackson Hole, Robert RG Garrett will relay his stories as a renegade snowboarder while most were still playing on two planks for the history portion of the event.

To fulfill artistic hankerings, iconic photographer Tim Zimmerman, who has immortalized Travis Rice unlike any other shutterfly that comes to mind, will present some of his shots. Local pro-rider Alex Yoder will screen a Japan (Japow) film about the snow surf movement for the design element of the evening and folks will receive a history lesson on the transceiver by Jeremy Jolly from Arva.

Bringing the snow sports community together for an off-hill gathering always makes for a heady evening but we’re especially stoked on this event because it doubles as a fundraiser for a worthy cause.

All proceeds from the evening will go to the Intertribal Winter Sports Summit, an event organized by Julie Zell and sponsored by Kingwill’s nonprofit, FuturePositiv Project, that invites Native American kids to Jackson Hole in March to learn to snowboard.
